Driving Social Change Through Education
Fundación Escuela Nueva strives to improve the quality, relevance, and efficiency of education by focusing on the student and prioritizing participatory, experiential learning. Launched in Colombia in 1987, Escuela Nueva was designed to address the root educational needs of the two million children who had been displaced by conflict. The model has demonstrated that through effective community empowerment, student-centered learning, teacher training, and parent engagement, students can reach high academic standards, permanently escape poverty, and become active, contributing members of a flourishing society.
Why we Love Them
Escuela Nueva empowers students to be active participants in their education. With proven results and a demonstrated ability to scale broadly, the model has been boosting academic achievements, improving gender equity, fostering civic and democratic behaviors in students, and promoting social and entrepreneurial skills for more than 20 years. To date, Escuela Nueva has positively impacted more than five million youth across 16 countries, with a special focus on displaced youth or those without access to quality education.
